A rare vacancy has arisen within Solihull Emergency Duty Team (EDT) following the retirement of a long serving member. Solihull EDT provides a quality Out of Hours Services for Children’s and Adult Social Care.

Based at Solihull Hospital, we are a small, supportive and experienced team who are all AMHP and Child Protection trained. Working nights, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis, you will respond to calls from the general public, stake holders and service providers, conducting child protection and adult safeguarding investigations, as well as carrying out assessments under the Mental Health Act, as required.

Most calls can be dealt with over the telephone, therefore you will benefit from the flexibility to work from home, should you wish to.  However, there will be occasions when you will need to go out at short notice and as such there is a requirement that you are within easy reach of the borough, able to drive and have access to a car.

Working with minimal supervision you will have the autonomy to manage your own workload, however, there is always manager on call to ensure you are supported.  

You will need to have a professional Social Work qualification, HCPC membership and Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) status. You will also need:

  • Substantial experience of conducting child protection investigations under Section 47 of the Childrens Act 1989
  • Substantial experience of conducting adult safeguarding enquiries
  • Experience of carrying out assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Sound knowledge of relevant childcare and adult safeguarding legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work on your own initiative and make effective decisions under pressure.
