Job Details

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), the transport arm of the West Midlands Combined Authority is a rapidly growing and fast emerging as a standard setter in the industry. We are a Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies employer and in October 2017, we became only the second ever to win the ‘City Region Authority of the Year’ twice in a row at the National Transport Awards. We need new talent to join our already excellent team that is making a real difference to people within the West Midlands.

About the team

The Network Resilience team within TfWM is responsible for the development and delivery of congestion management and travel demand management strategies, to mitigate the impact of congestion and delays caused by roadworks and disruption arising from investment on the transport system. Embedded within the team is the management of the Key Route Network (KRN) – 605km of strategic local roads and safety and security, keeping people safe when using our integrated transport network. We are also responsible for the Regional Transport Coordination Centre a new multi-agency facility to be opened in December 2019.

Who we need

We are looking for a creative, driven problem solver who can work in a highly collaborative environment to support the KRN Manager in the day to day work on strategic and operational matters, including coordination with local authorities to ensure effective management and operation of the network, and delivery of excellent connectivity across the West Midlands.

To succeed in this role, you will need good knowledge and experience of highway network management and thorough knowledge of the region’s investment plans. You must have a good understanding of the local road network, strategic road network, the wider transport system and our ambition for road safety and the development of the regional transport co-ordination centre.

You will support the development of the Highways Investment Plan, Regional Road Safety Strategy and supporting the Network Resilience Data Manager and KRN Corridor Managers in the delivering the KRN Monitoring Framework.

You must be prepared to work closely with partners from across the local authorities, in addition to strengthening existing collaborative relationships with Highways England, HS2, Network Rail and Department for Transport.

You will need to be comfortable working in a highly complex political environment, in which you have a proven ability to negotiate and achieve required outcomes from conflicting demands.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.
