Job Purpose: To help deliver and work as part of a team in the provision of a regular clubs, days out and residential trips for young carers aged 5-18 years.  Activities should support young carers to achieve a break from caring, develop their social skills and assist with transition into community based activities.

 

Functions specific to this role:

  1. To provide age appropriate activities in a safe, sensitive and understanding environment in line with session plans. Building rapport with new comers, encouraging participation and help to ease their transition into group settings.
  2. Encourage members to participate, contribute, learn, develop and enjoy themselves during activities.
  3. To ensure full and adequate supervision of young carers at all times throughout group activities and group sessions.
  4. Ensure members have a full understanding and are willing to follow the rules whilst attending the club and/or receiving transport.
  5. Listening to and supporting young carers and responding to their needs To ensure that young people attending sessions are signed in, safely picked up and/or receive transport home - and notify homebase of any change.
  6. Address challenging behaviour and ensure that incidents are recorded from an impartial perspective and reported back to the appropriate person.
  7. To help plan and evaluate group activities and feed back to appropriate person to inform funders and performance indicators.
  8. Working in partnership with the young carers, staff and volunteers to plan a varied and appropriate programme of group activities.
  9. To assist in the review of risk assessments to ensure activities provided during sessions are safe and risks are managed.
  10. Familiarise yourself with information available regarding young carers in particular health and medical details and act accordingly
  11. Comply with confidentiality and data protection policies and ensure accurate completion of all relevant documentation. 
  12. To take responsibility for keeping such information confidential and safe, and ensure that appropriate levels of confidentiality and safety are maintained in all areas of work.
  13. To ensure the safety and welfare of workers and clients by complying with the appropriate Health & Safety Regulations and the employment of safe working practices.
  14. Any other duties as may be appropriate to achieve the objectives, commensurate with the post holders grade, abilities and aptitude.
