About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proven leader to join the Public Protection Unit. Working alongside the Service Improvement Team and the PPU Command Team the successful candidate will lead on auditing compliance within the PPU and lead on Policy creation, review and implementation within the department. The Service Improvement Team are based at West Bromwich Police Station and the Command Team are based in Lloyd House.
Key Responsibilities:
- To develop and implement the policy of West Midlands Police in relation to vulnerability crime
- To research, write and develop policy documents relating to vulnerability crime
- To assist WMP in establishing and reviewing standards against the policy
- To research and write Initial Management Reviews for Domestic Homicide Reviews, Serious Case Reviews and other mandatory review processes
- To act as panel representative for Domestic Homicide Reviews, Serious Case reviews and other mandatory review processes.
- To oversee the process of consultation and drafting of all policies and related documents, including writing and continual update of documents
- Develop and implement policy and ensure it reflects achievable standards for WMP
- Continuous review of College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice (APP)
- Continuous review of recommendations from HMIC, SCR and DHR publications as well as national best practice
- Responsible for overseeing content and quality of WMP policy
- Liaises with employees at all levels within the organisation
- Liaison with relevant external stakeholders
- Provide guidance and support to management on all policy issues
- Research on WMP IT systems and write initial management reviews
- Represent WMP as panel member for DHRs, SCRs and other review processes

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- In depth knowledge of Public Protection and/or vulnerability crime including legislative responsibility and requirements.
- In depth knowledge of the implications of civil litigation and officer/staff misconduct regulations and professional standards matters
- Ability to scan nationally for best practice and to read and interpret significant amounts of information from various sources.
- Good knowledge of WMP intelligence systems with ability to assimilate, interpret and review a variety of information and produce reports outlining findings/recommendations
- Understanding of multi-agency mandatory review processes · Ability to manage and build relationships with stakeholders, including senior management, internal WMP departments and external partners.
- Excellent written skills, with ability to research and write accessible, clear policy documents and reports for a range of audiences.
- Excellent oral communication skills, with ability to engage different audiences, convey complex information in an accessible way and prepare and give presentations to different audiences.
