The advertised posts are for an Assistant Library Manager and Saturday working is required. You will assist the Library Manager in the provision of an effective modern library service, deputising in their absence, taking responsibility for supervising other Grade 2 and Grade 1 staff, dealing with financial and administrative matters, including IT services and assisting in maintaining buildings and ensuring equipment is in good order in accordance with the needs of Health and Safety.

 

Key duties include assisting customers and dealing with routine enquiries face to-face and on the telephone, enrolling new borrowers, helping customers access IT services, issuing and discharging books on either a computerised or manual system.

Previous experience of a customer facing role, using IT in a work environment, supervisory responsibility and an ability to categorise and sort information are key to the position.

These posts are located 3 geographical areas. The community libraries within each area are detailed below.

Area 1 - North/East Area – Community Libraries

Sutton, Mere Green, Boldmere, Erdington, Walmley, Ward End, Glebe Farm, Shard End

Area 2 - South/West Area– Community Libraries

Northfield, Frankley, Kings Norton, Harborne, Quinton, Weoley Castle, Druids Heath, Bartley Green, Stirchley, Selly Oak/Touchbase

Area 4 – Central/West Area– Community Libraries

Birchfield, Handsworth, Perry Common, Spring Hill, Kingstanding, Tower Hill, Aston, The POD

Applicants are therefore asked to identify which single area or multiple areas they wish to work in. Applicants will be applying to work within a geographical area which contains a number of libraries rather than a single library.

Applicants are requested to detail how many hours per month they are available to work and the days on which they are available. . Candidates will be asked at interview for the libraries they are available to work at.

Contracted employees also have full access to all training modules on People Solutions and other training provided by the library service. Further job and career development opportunities available.
