Skilts School is a special school for up to 80 primary aged boys between the age of 5-11 with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Some of the children also have diagnoses of ASD and ADHD and all travel from the Birmingham area to attend our day provision. The school will relocate to a brand new, purpose built, building in the east of Birmingham. The indicative date is September 2021. The school will academise with Forward Education Trust c2020.

All of our pupils have an Education Health and Care Plan which indicates the key areas of child development. Teachers are supported by experienced teaching assistants to ensure that our children make expected progress against those targets.

We are looking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic and talented individual to the post of Cover Supervisor. The successful candidate will have experience supporting children and leading classes with challenging behaviours in the primary phase. They will be able to confidently lead activities with other teaching assistants which engage children in learning activities when the class teacher is not present.

The latest Ofsted report (Sept 2019) states that “leaders are making sure that the curriculum continues to improve and, behaviours and attitudes to learning continue to improve. Pupils are approaching their work with more determination to get things right.” We are seeking candidates who enjoy working with others to share this journey of improvement and who are keen to develop their practice in this specialist area of education.

The ideal candidate will have some experience of supporting pupils with SEMH needs and will be able to work collaboratively with support staff and senior leaders in order to deliver high quality educational experiences for our young people. They will be empathetic to the complex needs of our pupils and be resilient; understanding that at times our pupils can display challenging behaviours which are a result of their special needs.
