Acting as a key focal point for pupils needing additional care, guidance and support and those going through complex key transition stages in their lives.  A main focus of the role is attendance, to work alongside key school staff in school to promote excellent attendance, reduce levels of absence and work with children and families to promote high levels of attendance. We are looking for an individual with commitment, energy and drive to join our team and work to provide positive mentoring and learning experiences for all our pupils. In return, we can offer a supportive working environment where all staff are valued and where there are opportunities for professional development.

You should have a passion for working with young people and an ability to communicate effectively with children and adults. You will be in a position to have a significant impact on the life chances of a young person. Preferably you will have experience in a similar role.

To encourage the inclusion of pupils who are at risk of social exclusion, those who may have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties by demonstrating the use of positive mentoring strategies and behaviour management techniques designed to develop the pupil’s ability to engage in learning and social environments appropriately.  Be responsible for clear communication with teachers, support staff, families and professionals in order to promote the effective use of cohesive behaviour management strategies.

The social mentor will work with identified pupils who demonstrate:

  • Significant and consistent underachievement
  • Poor behaviour compared to peers
  • Failing motivation and/or confidence
  • Difficulty in concentrating and being focused
  • Poor attendance and/or punctuality
  • Difficultly in relationships with peers or adults
