The Dudley Autism Outreach Service support pupils with a diagnosis of an Autistic Spectrum Disorder in mainstream primary and secondary schools in the borough. 

We require a motivated qualified teacher with significant experience of teaching primary and/or secondary aged pupils with an autistic spectrum disorder within a mainstream or special school.

Temporary role to cover maternity. Part Time 4 days per week. Starting January 2020.

Key responsibilities of the role: 

To ensure that the special educational needs of individual children are met within an inclusive environment that allows them access to the curriculum.

To have regard to the policies, procedures and practices of the Directorate.

To contribute to the development of the Autism Outreach Service by working in partnership with the Dudley Disability Service and schools to contribute to the raising of standards in teaching, learning and attainment for pupils with an ASD.

Teaching, assessment and/or monitoring, support and advice to schools with regard to the needs of children with an ASD.

To prepare and deliver training to schools and other settings to promote inclusive practices and to aid the effective teaching of pupils with an ASD.

To establish and maintain professional relationships with schools, other services or agencies, parents and pupils to develop and sustain effective teaching and learning strategies for pupils and an ASD.

To carry out detailed assessments, monitoring, specialist teaching and programme planning for pupils (caseload) and to provide written reports.

Qualified Teacher Status with additional SEN qualifications and/or training related to ASD.

 

Demonstrable experience of teaching primary or secondary aged pupils with ASD within a mainstream or special school setting.

Experience of working with parents and families.

Experience of working collaboratively with professionals from other agencies and services.

The ability to assess and produce detailed reports to summarise the individual educational needs of pupils with ASD within the classroom and social settings.

Ability to advise classroom teachers, SENCOs, parents and the child / young person with ASD on teaching and learning styles and practical strategies to enable access to the curriculum and social opportunities.

Knowledge of current SEN legislation relating to SENDCOP and Equality Act.

Ability to develop and advise on autism specific teaching methods eg: TEACCH, PECS, social stories to address the needs of children on caseload.

Ability to devise and deliver INSET on autistic spectrum disorders to a variety of targeted audiences.

Commitment to working within a team approach through liaison with colleagues in Autism Outreach, school staff and other professionals.
