Highways Maintenance Technician
Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: Scale 5-6 Career Grade – appointment on Scale 5 £20,422 with career grade up to £24,894


This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy Highways Maintenance team as a Technician to assist our Engineers and Senior Technicians in the design and delivery of highway maintenance schemes or minor programmes of work across Worcestershire.  In addition, you'll be required to:

Develop and maintain effective partnership relationships with contractors and district offices.
To assist with severe weather/emergency events.
To investigate Public Enquiries, raise orders for highway works

Working in a varied and fast paced environment, you will use your existing knowledge and experience to support service delivery in a range of interesting and challenging highways maintenance and improvement schemes and will be based at our Newland depot in Malvern.

We're looking for a bright and enthusiastic person to join our team that is motivated, good at problem solving and has good communication skills with a Level 3 qualification in Civil Engineering or similar with the following skills and experience:

Working knowledge and experience of highway maintenance materials, techniques and standards with a proven track record of compiling, designing and delivering minor highways maintenance schemes
Ability to undertake site surveys, sometimes in difficult weather and on difficult terrain.
Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and information and be able to draft technical information for approval and sign-off.
The ability to prioritise work for a minor highway maintenance scheme to meet tight or urgent deadlines with experience of monitoring expenditure.
Effective partnership and team working and experience in resolving minor highway matters
Good computer literacy including ability to use standard packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

You'll also need to have a valid driving licence (need to drive high visibility County vehicles on high speed roads) with the willingness to travel extensively within the County and to work occasionally outside 'normal office' hours.
