Permanent contract

Tamworth Borough Council is an organisation which has a one team approach to the delivery of its services. The Environmental Health team is an integral part of the organisation ensuring that residents and businesses are safe and regulated.

Tamworth itself is a large market town located in the south east corner of Staffordshire. The town has an identity of its own which sets it apart from other Staffordshire towns and also from the Birmingham conurbation, which is on the doorstep.

With a population of approximately 77,000 the town centre is the hub and focal point for the town with a range of restaurants, pubs and bars and other licensed premises and activities. The local economy is strong and vibrant with a diverse range of businesses including manufacturing, office, logistics and retail, many of which are dovetailed with residential areas, both old and new.

Our Environmental Health team cover a wide range of disciplines including food safety, health and safety, infectious diseases, all licensing activities, noise control and public protection including contaminated land, environmental permitting, air quality and water pollution. Tamworth has a cumulative impact zone in its town centre.

You will have experience of a combination of these activities, a flair for improving services and the ability to manage change. To be successful in this role, you will need to have strong leadership abilities and management capability. You will use your negotiation and excellent communication skills to forge strong partnerships and work collaboratively with stakeholders, colleagues and Members.

The Borough Council are committed to delivering services which continuously improve and evolve to meet the expectations of our residents, businesses and visitors. This is a great opportunity to work for an authority that isn’t afraid to challenge itself and strive to do better.

The authority offers an excellent employment package with flexible working, a non-contributory health scheme, Local Government pension scheme and generous holiday entitlement.

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, nationality check, and medical clearance.

If you would like an informal discussion about the role please call Anna Miller, Assistant Director - Growth and Regeneration on 01827 709276.
