0.7 fte South/West Area Library permanent position

The Birmingham Community Library Service is being transformed with a focus on customer needs new services are being developed alongside reading support, book lending, information services, access to IT and community activities,. Vacancies exist for people who can work flexibly and who want to make a positive contribution to this exciting period of change. The hours will need to be worked on a rota basis and Saturday working is required. You will assist the Library Manager and other senior staff in the provision of an effective modern library service, including book lending, IT services and a range of other community services.


Key duties include assisting customers and dealing with routine enquiries face to-face and on the telephone, enrolling new borrowers, helping customers access IT services, issuing and discharging books on either a computerised or manual system. Other duties may include undertaking general clerical duties e.g., stamping, stationery and filing as required, minor book repairs, dealing with monies, taking fines, reservation fees and other income.

Previous experience of a customer facing role, using IT in a work environment, and an ability to categorise and sort information are key to the position.

Based at Quinton Library for administrative purposes, this post is located within the South/West geographical area at the following community libraries.

Northfield, Frankley, Kings Norton, Harborne, Quinton, Weoley Castle, Druids Heath, Bartley Green, Stirchley, Selly Oak/Touchbase, West Heath.

 

 

 

Applicants will be applying to work within a geographical area which contains a number of libraries rather than a single library.

Applicants are requested to detail how many hours per month they are available to work and the days on which they are available. Candidates will be asked at interview for the libraries they are available to work at.
