Job Details

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Adaptations Team based in Coventry.  We currently have a full-time vacancy for a Home Improvement Officer (HIO). As a Service, we work with clients who have a wide range of disabilities from a diverse range of cultural and social backgrounds. 

We are looking to recruit workers who are enthusiastic and can build professional trusting relationships with Occupational Therapy (OT) staff, clients, their carers and other stakeholders. This is a great opportunity to work in a diverse and supportive team whose focus is on enabling individuals to achieve optimum control of their lives through the process of therapeutic intervention.  Our role is to work alongside the OT team to help disabled people to continue to live safely and independently in their own homes by adapting their environment to meet their needs.  In partnership with the OT team, we design schemes that will meet clients’ needs in the most economical way.

To thrive in this role, you are required to:

  • Process Disabled Facilities Grants for eligible clients by completing application forms, undertaking means tests and property surveys
  • Prepare plans, estimated costs, and schedules of work for approval by Occupational Therapy staff, clients and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor cases to ensure that the clients are kept up to date throughout the process, and then inspect works upon completion

 The skills that you need are:

  • Working knowledge of building construction (HNC/HND or equivalent in building construction or have two years’ relevant experience) with an understanding of housing issues & legislation relating to common types of domestic dwellings, their defects and remedial works
  • Knowledge of windows-based software
  • The ability to draw plans (by hand or AutoCAD)
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Numerical and analytical skills
