We are looking for an innovative, passionate and driven individual to lead a comprehensive and holistic approach to Employee Relations and Wellbeing within West Midlands Police.

The Role

The Head of Employee Relations and Wellbeing is responsible for the development, leadership and promotion of the Employee Relations and Wellbeing Strategy, ensuring that it drives organisation success and champions the Force vision, values and People Deal.

The role will require you to provide expert advice to the Force on all employee relations and wellbeing matters, engaging with senior leaders and key stakeholders to encourage a proactive and preventative approach employee relations and wellbeing.

You will be responsible for the development and leadership of a high performing team, alongside building management and leadership capability within the Force.

You will lead the relationship and key negotiations our Trade Unions, Police Federation and Staff Associations, you will be critical to ensuring increased business performance, employee engagement and legal compliance.

The Candidate

We are looking for a positive, passionate individual with a prior experience in leading an employee relations and wellbeing function, gained within a complex, unionised environment.

Experience of creating and implementing successful employee relations strategies and interventions which have had a demonstrable impact on organisational success is essential alongside in depth knowledge of employment law and employee relations practices, understands their contribution to business success.

In addition, prior experience of designing, implementing and evaluating innovative wellbeing initiatives at a strategic level is required.

You must have previous experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, at a senior level with the ability to negotiate, influence and persuade.

The ideal candidate for this role will have substantial demonstrable knowledge and skills as follows:

·         Excellent communication skills including written and verbal skills, with exceptional interpersonal, negotiating and influencing skills;

 

·         Legal Qualification;

·         MCIPD or equivalent, relevant professional qualification;

·         Ability to influence and engage staff through the creation of a diverse, inclusive, motivational environment;

 

·         Be innovative, passionate, focussed and flexible within the working environment;

 

This role is based in central Birmingham. However, the nature of this role will require some travel to WMP offices across West Midlands region.

This role reports to the Assistant Director of Business Partnering.
