About the role:

As a technician within the Forensic Evidence Processing Team, the post holder will support the objectives of the Forensic Services Unit and drive the Unit towards excellence within the field of forensic evidence presentation. This will be done by recording and presenting evidence in a variety of different formats. There will be a requirement to work in a multi-functional team, undertaking tasks commensurate with the banding.

You will be supervised by the Evidence Processing Manager, but are expected to use your own initiative.  Requirement to work a shift pattern which will cover 7 days a week between core hours 0730-1830, appropriate allowances will be payable in accordance with the police staff handbook.

Specific Duties:

  • To receive injury and post mortem photographs taken by Forensic Scene Investigators for the purpose of evidence presentation
  • To receive pathologists reports for the purpose of evidence presentation
  • To utilise appropriate software to replicate injuries from photographs onto a manikin for the purpose of image sterilisation
  • To utilise lasers and cameras to record crime scenes for the purpose of crime scene reconstruction
  • To utilise Forensic Scene Investigators photographs and Fingerprint Expert knowledge and opinion to produce a presentation that demonstrates how items have been handled
  • To operate force systems to record, update and case track all activity on cases
  • To ensure good practice relating to Health & Safety and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
  • To support and work within a Quality Management System and fully understand the requirements and benefits of Forensic regulation and accreditation
  • To perform internal audits as required in line with Quality Management System
  • To maintain a clean, operational working environment
  • To take adequate security precautions in respect of information in accordance with force policy and the  General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  • Able to tolerate potentially unpleasant situations or sights
  • Expected to comply with Health and Safety at Work Act, Fire Prevention Regulations and COSHH Regulations at all times
  • Required to attend training courses as and when required within the development of the post holder and the Unit

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Must have a good level of knowledge and operational experience in the field of forensic science or photography
  • Must demonstrate excellent presentation skills
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Must be prepared to undertake and complete relevant courses
  • Must demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving and a willingness to accept responsibility

Desirable requirements:

  • Practical experience of Digital Photography
  • Practical understanding of Evidence Presentation
