SALARY RANGE: GR3

HOURS: 36.5.hrs per week

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Fixed term contract, 12 months

 

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a number of people to join our multi-disciplinary public health team in a range of Public Health Graduate roles. This is a rare opportunity to join the largest Local Authority in the country and contribute to Birmingham being a great city that enables people to live healthy and active lives.

 

The role of the Grade 3 (GR3) Public Health Graduate is designed for recent graduates with a degree in Public Health or an equivalent relevant degree level qualification. It will give early and formative experience in applying their learning in a dynamic public health department.  This unique and exciting opportunity will maximise the recent learning from the degree by giving opportunities to apply learning in the context of Birmingham’s public health challenges and opportunities, and will give the post holder a way develop experience across the Public Health skills and knowledge framework (PHSKF).  The graduate will work to a senior manager in the Public Health division on a series of both structured projects depending on the role (one of two as highlighted below) and reactive pieces of work that are designed to have an impact on the health of individuals in Birmingham. By managing projects from initiation to completion, there will be opportunities to demonstrate personal impact and outcomes during the placement.  There are currently up to ten graduate roles across five Public Health themes, available on a twelve month fixed term contract, all of which involve working in a matrix way across Birmingham City Council and partners:

 

 

There are two Healthy Behaviours themed graduate roles available:  Addressing inactivity and Work and Health.

 

The post holders will explore opportunities for applying learning from emerging policy and practice in improving physical activity and in improving workplace health to improve Public Health practice and reduce health inequalities in Birmingham.

Successful graduates will be required to deliver on a selection of duties and responsibilities within the sub-team that they will be supporting, with responsibilities changing and evolving based on emerging priorities and business needs.

 

Skills & Experience Each graduate must have a degree in Public Health degree or other relevant degree level qualification and must be prepared to continue with on-going professional development within the role.  

 

The post holders must have experience of working on projects, monitoring performance, understanding the relevant policy environment and public health priorities.

 

Post holders should have experience of report writing and communicating information to a diverse audience.  

 

The post holders in each of the themed areas will develop and apply subject matter expertise and technical skills to public health projects, and implement practical and rigorous approaches to ensure that work has an impact on health and wellbeing. This includes:

• Identifying and using suitable sources of data and carrying out data analysis to help establish health needs.

• Engaging with citizens and other stakeholders to understand the local context of and feasibility of interventions

• Communicating and presenting innovative solutions and best practice for health and wellbeing problems to stakeholders and citizens

• Supporting the evaluation of interventions

• Delivering technical pieces of work such as; health needs assessments, health impact assessments, systematic reviews, or health economics analyses

• Working collaboratively with stakeholders to embed evidence-based approaches

• Supporting work on equality impact assessments  Additional Information Special Conditions:
