The West Midlands Combined Authority is a strategic regional body that works to secure inclusive economic growth for the region, to improve life chances and the wellbeing of citizens, and to influence the reform of public services in ways that address vulnerability and provide more opportunities for people to succeed.

Our challenge is to create jobs, enhance skills, develop prosperity and drive economic growth through getting more from our public services.

To do this we are re-evaluating, re-designing and implementing new strategies and approaches alongside partners, focusing on initiatives and interventions that are designed to have an impact upstream of problems before they became acute.

We have three core strands to our work:

• Radical Prevention - Developing new ways of preventing social problems that have become entrenched in the region and which block the potential of so many of our communities

• Inclusive Growth - A model of organisations working together to transform peoples' lives by developing new ways of positive change in communities, promoting inclusive growth across the West Midlands that all of our residents and communities can benefit from.

• System Collaboration - Enabling change across public services and civil society in the West Midlands by creating space for collaboration and establishing the foundations for that change.

To build on and take our work forward in this space we now wish to appoint a new Director who will provide the visionary strategic leadership of the West Midlands Public Service Reform (PSR), environment and wellbeing programmes to improve the quality of life of everyone in the area.

Through dynamic and effective leadership, they will direct and lead cross-boundary working to reform the way that public services are delivered across the region. The role requires a skilled and nuanced negotiator able to lead on productive engagement and negotiations with Government to secure the powers and resources required to enable the West Midlands to deliver reform at scale and to ensure the best possible outcomes for residents and partners.

We are looking to recruit an experienced leader who can help us to achieve our ambitions, by providing clear leadership, direction and vision to a radically redesigned approach built around inclusive growth, mental health and wellbeing, criminal justice and the region’s response to climate change. Ensuring that the necessary skills, expertise and support is available to all partners for PSR reform to be delivered effectively throughout the whole region.
