The GMAC, Birmingham, is a specialist gymnastics centre running successful programmes in Mens and Womens Artistic, Preschool, Tumbling Rhythmic and General Gymnastics.

One of our team position holders, Assistant Head of Womens Artistic Gymnastics, will in the new year be going on maternity leave and as such we are looking for an an experienced coach for whom this will be a great career opportunity to not only learn from a highly successful programme but also an opportunity for a dynamic individual to also bring their experiences and enhance what is an already a thriving City of Birmingham Gymnastics Performance Programme.

To assist the Head of Womens Artistic Gymnastics in achieving World Class level performance through leading and supervising both coaching activity with all identified performance squad gymnasts and all l Level 1, 2 and voluntary coaches working on the programme.

To assist aspects of the General development programme working twice a week withe the Gymfants, preschool programme and once a week on the general programme a total of 11hrs per week.

To support the practical coaching and programme planning of the Gymfants and Recreation Gymnastics Scheme.

To have responsibilities for the mentoring and development of Apprentice, Level 1 and Level 2 coaches

To delegate activities to assistant coaches and supervise their work with all sub-groups as appropriate.

To plan and regularly review a scheme of work in conjunction with the Gymnastics Development Officers, where appropriate. It is a requirement that all evaluated session plans are kept.

To support the on-going gymnastics events programme at the GMAC

To assist in the continual exploration of avenues to develop and raise the standard of the Artistic Performance programme with regard to Birmingham’s local, regional, national and International profile

To have proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office, relevant specialised software) in order to manage own reports, statistical returns and any other associated administration

To discharge all health and safety requirements which include the performers, the sporting environment (facilities and equipment), and the activities in which the performers practice and compete.

To immediately report all issues of health and safety concerns, including accidents, to senior management, that may arise.

To be responsible for the safe erecting, dismantling and adjustment of

Gymnastics apparatus as required

To maintain an accurate register of attendance. The register must be available for monitoring as required.

To monitor the progress of the individuals and group.

To become familiar with the facility’s normal operating and emergency operating procedures develop and maintain good working relationships with all staff on site.

To be prepared to undertake appropriate training to enhance skills and knowledge base as opportunities arise.

Experience of coaching in paid or voluntary capacity

Experience of leading sessions in a club or Local Authority programme and working with gymnasts at Participation & Performance level

Experience of writing detailed individual and group sessions plans, monitoring and evaluating gymnast progression and recording associated information

Leading on health and safety matters relating to the reporting of equipment issues; safe management of gymnastics apparatus

Experience of working with, leading and mentoring Level 1 & 2 coaches

Demonstrate good leadership and decision making qualities providing a positive role model for gymnastics to gymnasts, parents and volunteers.

Ability to be self-motivated and work to under own supervision

Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, evenings and holidays

Ability to organise and motivate coaches and their work programme

Ability to handle difficult conversations and situations with parents and colleagues

1. The postholder must hold the a British Gymnastics, minimum, Level 3, qualification and always have up-to-date valid membership. Observation should also be made of any requirement of the National Governing Body to re-validate any such status’s

2. The postholder must hold a valid Safeguarding and Protecting of Children certificate

3. Evening, weekend working and bank holidays are required as part of the normal duties which are reflected financially within the rate of pay without further enhancement
