About Us

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration.  Individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands - the Commonwealth Games will be here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.

Against a backdrop of a uniquely challenging and evolving environment, we are looking for the right people to ensure we can meet the demands of delivering an ambitious agenda that aims to build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous West Midlands.  This new role will truly have an impact on the whole of our region.

About the Role

The Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, is delighted to support the second annual West Midlands Giving Day. A celebration of the generosity of our region, Giving Day is an opportunity for us all to come together to support the charities and good causes in our area.

As part of the planning for this event, we are looking for three business engagement leads, one for each of the following areas:

  1. Birmingham and Solihull
  2. Coventry
  3. Black Country

The role of the Business Engagement lead for each area will be to help spread awareness and to encourage participation from a wide range of businesses in order to make the event a huge success. You may also be expected to host the Mayor and other dignitaries on the day itself.

You will be expected to work directly with both businesses and with business-link organisations such as:

- The Local Enterprise Partnership

- Local Chambers of Commerce

- Federation of Small Businesses

- Institute of Directors

- Microbusinesses

- Start-up hubs

- Local business champions groups

- Universities

- Local councils

Personal qualities:

- Someone who is passionate about local charities and giving back

- A prolific networker, someone who can sell an initiative and get buy in from business leaders

- Someone with good experience of building networks

- Someone with existing good links with businesses and networks

- An organiser, able to fix schedules and create plans

- Someone who can work with event organisers on public events

- An organised person who likes to keep a record and is able to feed back to the rest of the team

We are committed to developing an organisation that is representative of the diverse communities that we serve and welcome applications from all sections of the community.  The following groups are currently under-represented: young people, Black, Asian and ethnic minority groups and women at senior levels.

Please provide your CV and a covering letter detailing information about your suitability for the post and ensure it is emailed to Linda.Georgiou@wmca.org.uk by the closing date.

Closing Date: 15 January 2020

Interview date: Week commencing 20 January 2020

We are committed to equality of opportunity in service provision and employment. Our recruitment policies, procedures and practices enable all applicants to be considered on merit and ability to do the job. We will make reasonable adjustments, in line with the Equality Act, for disabled applicants if these are needed.
