The Revenues Service is responsible for the collection of £880 million of business rates and council tax.  We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic Revenues Officers ideally with a history of income collection and specifically with experience of dealing with business rates matters or performance / quality management within a Revenues environment.  

We currently have two vacancies; one specifically dealing with business rates and the other with performance and quality assurance checks. 

 

Applicants will need to demonstrate experience and understanding of the regulations and processes related to business rates including liability, reliefs, exemptions and valuation matters for the business rates role. In respect of the performance and quality assurance position we are seeking an applicant who can demonstrate they have experience in this area including the effective monitoring and reporting of information and outcomes.

 

 

You will be required to work both independently and as part of a team taking ownership of actions to ensure the prompt, accurate and efficient billing, collection and enforcement of business rates, in accordance with legislation, city council policies and procedures, and to meet required targets.  This includes meeting citizens and ratepayers face to face, updating records, negotiation, dealing with complex cases, telephones calls and offering advice and guidance to citizens and colleagues when required.

 

Experience and knowledge of local taxation law and practice

Proven history of income collection

To effectively communicate with colleagues and citizens
