Midlands Connect has taken huge leaps forward in the last two years, with a communications strategy that’s put regional transport investment firmly on the map.

We’ve played a leading role in securing HS2 and are about to refresh our landmark transport strategy for the Midlands. With a government committed to levelling up the country and kick-starting an infrastructure revolution, there has never been a better time to join us and help achieve our aim of securing transformational investment in our strategic transport networks.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for an experienced, proactive, creative communications professional with a keen eye for detail, first class media contacts and an awareness of the complex political landscape to drive multi-channel, multi-stakeholder campaigns that get audiences talking about transport.

Managing a small team, you will ideally have a proven track record of planning and implementing campaigns that exceed expectations, experience of getting the most out of creative agencies, and an awareness of local and central government communications channels.

You’ll be able to take complex technical studies and create an engaging narrative that appeals to stakeholders, partners and the public. You’ll have the creative ideas and the media nous to promote this work widely to our diverse audiences.

As the Sub-national Transport Body for the Midlands and transport partner of the Midlands Engine, our partnership is vast: councils, LEPs, Chambers of Commerce, airports, HS2 Ltd, Network Rail, Highways England, and our sponsor the Department for Transport. You’ll work closely with all of them, as well as MPs and businesses, to amplify our messages and build relationships internally and externally.

This is a unique role for an exceptional candidate; whether you’re an outstanding, experienced journalist looking for a new challenge or a senior comms manager ready to swap a reactive role for something more campaign-led.

Whatever your background, we’re looking for someone who knows how to create engaging content, someone with the people skills to build lasting relationships, and the leadership qualities to manage a small team that thrives on success.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.

We are committed to developing an organisation that is representative of the diverse communities that we serve and welcome applications from all sections of the community.  The following groups are currently under-represented: young people, Black, Asian and ethnic minority groups and women at senior levels.

Wherever possible we will offer flexible working options which assist work-life balance and support service delivery for the customer

Please provide detailed information in your application outlining your suitability for the post and ensure it is submitted by the closing date.

Closing Date: 27 March 2020
