Job Title: Bikeability/Road Safety Instructor

Salary: £9.62 - £9.81 per hour with additional 14.49% enhancement

Worcestershire County Council's Road Safety Team wishes to increase its pool of Cycling and Road Safety Instructors who work flexibly on a casual basis (zero hours contract) during school term time. The roles can be combined so applicants can apply for either role or both.

Cycling Instructors deliver Bikeability National Standard Cycle Training in schools throughout Worcestershire. It is essential that you are a regular cyclist with your own bike, have general road safety knowledge and previous experience of working with children. You must either be a National Standard Accredited Bikeability Cycle Instructor or willing to work towards this accreditation (training will be provided).

Road Safety Instructors are responsible for liaising with schools to arrange and deliver class talks and outdoor pedestrian training to school age children. Road Safety Instructors are responsible for organising their own work within an assigned geographic area. Experience of carrying out risk assessments is desirable but training will be provided.

For both roles applicants will need to have good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to relate these skills to primary school age children. You may need to supervise adult volunteers as well as children and you will need the ability to solve problems positively and appropriately whilst delivering training. Good numeracy and literacy skills are required, together with the confidence and ability to train groups, maintain discipline and inspire confidence in a fun environment.

The team currently trains over 15,000 pupils a year in road safety education and Bikeability. Applicants should have a positive approach and enthusiasm for increasing children's road safety education. If you are interested in delivering Bikeability or Road Safety Education (or both) in schools then we would like to hear from you.

Please contact the Bikeability Team at Bikeability@worcestershire.gov.uk BEFORE applying to confirm that there are vacancies available.
