Trainee Accountant

Career Graded – £19,945 - £31,371 per annum (Pay Award Pending)

We have a unique and exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or AAT qualified individual to train for a professional qualification whilst learning on the job. We are looking for a self-motivated, hard-working Trainee Accountant with excellent communication skills to join our busy and friendly team based at the Civic Centre in Pershore, Worcestershire.

As Trainee Accountant you will undertake a course of study leading to the successful completion of a CIPFA accountancy qualification. The training programme will incorporate a range of technical and managerial skills, including financial and management accounting, auditing, leadership, management, governance and public policy. You will carry out various tasks and duties within the financial services team as part of your role which will support you in gaining the necessary experience to become a qualified accountant. You will also gain practical experience from working on a variety of projects to ensure that all of relevant areas required by the qualification are covered.

During your training, you may take on duties of specific posts within the team. The areas you will cover include:

  • Accountancy processes and accounting requirements
  • Closure of accounts
  • Budgets and budgetary control
  • Financial administration including reconciliation of control systems
  • Financial Information Systems
  • Payables and Receivables
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Knowledge of other relevant professional areas of the councils work

You will be a hard working, motivated and flexible individual with at least 5 GCSE’s in at Grade C or above including Mathematics and English. You must hold a Degree or Accounting Technician NVQ4 qualification.

You must be willing to learn on the job, and be available to attend training events outside of normal working hours.

Note. This is a career graded post, so the successful candidate will be assessed against the criteria detailed on the Job Description.

No previous work experience is required, but a willingness to learn and a great attitude towards work is essential.

The successful candidate must have excellent IT and communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail and must be able to plan, prioritise and organise their own workload to meet deadlines.
