If you are thinking about going to University to study IT, then this 2 year apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to avoid student debt, gain a recognised qualification and earn money while you study.

You will be working for Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council’s IT department within a small team that provides specific support to Solihull Community Housing and the Council’s Property Services department.

Solihull Community Housing (SCH) was set up in 2004 and manages some 10,000 homes on behalf of Solihull Council. Alongside traditional landlord functions, SCH currently delivers housing allocations, homelessness and housing options services. In addition it provides environmental, cleaning, and wellbeing services to Council tenants and private residents in Solihull. https://www.solihullcommunityhousing.org.uk/

The Council’s Property Services department offers a planned and cyclical maintenance service to ensure council buildings are safe and compliant, and that minor issues are not put off until they become larger projects. They provide electrical testing, gas servicing and annual programmed maintenance together with individual or programmed project work. https://psmpartnership.co.uk/about/

Both organisations require complex IT systems to allow their businesses to function efficiently and you will be part of a small team supporting around 350 users based in various office locations.  As part of this two year apprenticeship you will undertake training for the IS Business Analyst Level 4 qualification details of which can be found here

But in addition you will gain real work experience of:

  • Dealing with user’s problems and service requests
  • Providing support and advice to users of IT systems
  • Providing general day to day administration and support for all IT systems
  • Developing bespoke reports for end users using Microsoft Reporting Services solutions
  • Ensuring that systems documentation is kept up to date
  • Building PC, laptops, tablets and smart phones, installing specialist software and apps as required.
