As part of Dudley's Welfare Rights Service, Welfare Benefits Officers (WBOs) have a major part to play to ensure vulnerable customers receiving non-residential care and support have their income maximised to enable them to live fulfilled and independent lives within their own homes.

In addition, WBOs calculate the contribution customers may be required to pay towards the cost of their care and support.

Within an established team, where the majority of WBOs have been in post since the early 2000s, we are looking for 2 new faces to join us. These are new posts which will help us to continue to provide an excellent service to our customers.

This is an exciting time as we are migrating onto a new administrative system which will assist us to continue to improve efficiency

Hours: 37 per week

Salary: Grade 8 (Subject to Pay Award)

Location: Brierley Hill Health and Social Care Centre

This is an exciting opportunity to work with customers accessing Adult Social Care services, maximising income through assisting with relevant benefits claims, and undertaking financial assessments to determine customer contributions for services received.

As part of an established team, these roles involve working closely with customers, by telephone, home visit and Email, liaising with Social Care colleagues, DWP and other benefit delivery organisations.

You will:

- have substantial recent experience of advising claimants of their entitlement to the range of Social Security benefits and representing claimants before Social Security appellate bodies.

- be able to work with limited supervision and cope with pressure

- be self-motivated & committed to the rights of claimants

The council has a contractual 3 days mandatory unpaid leave which, for the majority of services, are fixed at the Christmas period.  This represents a pay deduction of 1.15% in return for which employees are afforded three days unpaid leave (pro-rata for part time staff).
