An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Placement Officer within our excellent Placements Team.

Hours:  37 per week

Salary:  Grade: 9 

The candidate must also have knowledge of the issues in social care and how these might influence placements.  You will have experience of the impact and understanding of the principles of good care and support to vulnerable children, and how to achieve better value for money.  In addition, you will have experience of working within a similar working environment, matching criteria to identified need.

The Senior Placements Officer will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Placement Service supervising a small team of placement officers.

Working closely with Social Work Teams and Commissioning Officers, the Placements Service is responsible for sourcing appropriate, high quality and best value placements for vulnerable children and young people.  The role will involve regular contact with both internal and external providers across a range of service areas including, but not limited to, fostering, residential and supported accommodation.

Excellent customer service and communication skills are an essential requirement of the job.  The role requires a confident and assertive individual capable of making decisions and problem solving.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate sound judgement and an excellent knowledge of the relevant legislation and safeguarding practice.

The post will ensure that placement searches are recorded effectively, and that data can be drawn effectively from records and used to inform needs analysis and training needs within the directorate.

To be accountable for ensuring the team achieves its operational plan: by promoting an appropriate culture: empowering others and setting and maintaining high and measurable standards of practice.

The council has a contractual 3 days mandatory unpaid leave which, for the majority of services, are fixed at the Christmas period.  This represents a pay deduction of 1.15% in return for which employees are afforded three days unpaid leave (pro-rata for part time staff).
