Newcastle Borough Council in Staffordshire have two planning vacancies within their busy Development Management section; 

Trainee Officer/Planning Officer 

(Permanent, 37 hours per week) 
Salary £21,589 to £32,029 per annum (Grade 6-9) 

You will be either a Trainee Officer or Planning Officer responsible for dealing with pre-planning application enquiries, planning applications, enforcement cases and appeals.

The successful candidate will either have a Royal Town Planning Institute accredited degree or be prepared to undertake, with the Council’s support, such a degree course. If you do not already have an RTPI accredited degree you will meet the entry requirements for RTPI accredited courses and as such you will be likely to have a degree or equivalent in Town and Country Planning or a closely related qualification. 

Ideally you will be a Student, Associate, Licentiate or Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.  

This post will commence on Grade 6 to 9  with progression beyond top of Grade 6 subject to achievement of RTPI accredited degree and Executive Director’s approval, and beyond top of Grade 7 subject to securing of MRTPI status and Executive Director’s approval.

Planning Officer 

(12 month fixed term contract, 37 hours per week)
Salary £24,313 to £32,029 per annum (Grade 7-9)

In this role you will act as a case officer and you will make professional recommendations on planning applications and related matters.  You will contribute towards the efficient delivery of the Development Control Service.

You will have a Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) accredited planning qualification.  Ideally you will be a Student, Associate, Licentiate or Chartered Member of the RTPI.  You will have experience of development management within a local authority and ideally experience in dealing with appeals and enforcement.

The successful candidate for both posts will have 

  • excellent IT, report writing, presentation, interpersonal and negotiating skills;
  • commitment/enthusiasm and ability to work to strict deadlines;
  • current valid driving licence and access to a vehicle that is available for work purpose
