Job Details

King Edward VI College, Stourbridge is a sixth form college, operating within the further education sector.  The college specialises in the delivery of A levels for 16 to 19 year olds, offering a broad curriculum with extensive enrichment opportunities.  The college is a vibrant, inclusive community with over 2000 students from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds, all united in their enthusiasm for learning.

We require a part-time or full-time term-time Learning Mentor to start as soon as possible. Hours available are from 13 hours per week to 37.

The Learning Mentor plays a key role in supporting students to ensure they are enabled to achieve their personal and academic potential.  The Learning Mentor will serve as part of a team of mentors, reporting to the SENCo and will have responsibility for specialist support in one of several key areas of learning support.  Learning Mentors will work with individual students both inside and outside of the classroom to ensure that identified strategies are effectively implemented to support progress and the development of independent learning.  In addition, Learning Mentors will co-ordinate the daily support for selected high needs students.  The role will involve keeping accurate written records of support provided, administering diagnostic assessments of students for learning differences and co-coordinating special arrangements for lessons and examinations.

Each Learning Mentor will also be a designated lead for the support of a clearly defined group of students with additional learning needs.  This could include the following:

  • students with dyslexia
  • students with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • supporting students with study and organisational skills and providing motivational support

As part of an inspirational team, you’ll help to nurture and support ambitious young people aged 16 – 19 years old.  We welcome applicants from a broad range of prior experience.  This role would also be suitable for a recent graduate seeking the opportunity to gain experience in a sixth form college, perhaps prior to embarking on a PGCE or for anyone who is looking for a supportive employer to back you in your desire to undertake further training, including teacher training.

The college is fully committed to supporting all members of staff through staff development and in-service training.

This is a permanent, part-time or full-time post, subject to the conditions of service handbook of the Sixth Form Colleges Association.  Salary will be paid on the Sixth Form Colleges Association support staff pay scale, grade 7 - 11 (£19,300 - £22,045); this equates to £16,161.30- £18,459.89 term-time only, based on 37 hours per week).

Full requirements for the role can be found in the attached job description and person specification or from the college: email hr@kedst.ac.uk ; or access information via the college website: www.kedst.ac.uk .

Please note that CVs cannot be accepted.  Applications must be sent electronically in the original format (Word document).  Closing date for applications is 9:00 am Monday 21 September 2020.

King Edward College, Stourbridge is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.  The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.  The college celebrates diversity and aims to recruit a diverse range of staff.
