Worcester

Worcester is a great place to work. We have a thriving city centre, a great wealth of history and a fantastic environment, making it somewhere to be proud of.

Everyone associated with Worcester City Council is proud of Worcester’s offer of a high quality of life, varied heritage, award winning parks and our contribution to the development of modern local government.

It is a fantastic place to work and you will find us to be an organisation that is challenging yet caring; with our leadership adventurous in its pursuit of excellence.

At Worcester City Council, we have a work-family culture and we are proud to support and value the combination of employees’ work and family lives.

We have a clear vision to achieve excellence in everything we do and to achieve excellence in everyone we employ, meaning we are looking for an excellent candidate to come and join our work family!

The role

We are looking to recruit an experienced Learning and Outreach Co-ordinator at The Commandery to develop and deliver the learning programme. The Commandery is a historic building and visitor attraction in the heart of Worcester.

This role is vital to the Commandery, delivering the learning programmes to schools, communities and other groups. This will include pre-planning, initial welcome, managing their presence on site and teaching educational sessions by linking with the themes of our building in engaging ways.

The successful candidate will know how to take a story from our building and make this inspirational for all different age and abilities. If you have high standards of organisation, experience of inspiring a team to deliver a range of learning programmes and are excellent at communicating with a range of people, this role could be for you.

Key requirements

We are looking for someone who is passionate about engaging visitors of all ages and abilities with The Commandery. We expect the successful applicant to have excellent communication skills and have the skills to engage children, SEND groups and community groups using historic objects and stories.

Strong candidates will have a sound background of delivering learning programmes, ideally in a museum or heritage setting. Experience of working with children and young people in a museum or similar environment and familiarity with the National Curriculum are also essential.  If this is you - then we would love to hear from you!

Skills and Experience

A background in the Museum industry is not an essential requirement – what we are hoping to find is an enthusiastic and engaging individual who is passionate about learning in a museum or heritage environment. We expect applicants to have experience developing and delivering workshops with schools and community groups.

Additional information

This role will work 17.5 hours a week to be worked over 3 or 4 days. The successful applicant will need to be flexible with their working pattern as the normal working days will be Tuesday - Friday, with occasional weekend, bank holidays or evening work depending on when The Commandery have bookings. The post holder will work February to December each year, however your salary for the 11 months is paid in equal installments across 12 months of the year.

Please note: This role is a temporary contract until 30 April 2022, with the possibility of extension.

For more information about the role, please contact Gemma Dhami - Museums Learning Manager on gemma.dhami@worcester.gov.uk

Closing date: 11 October 2020
