Brighter. Bolder. Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council is the largest local authority in Europe – and we’re on the cusp of something truly special. With an annual spend of over £3billion we’re gearing up for major events such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the creation of HS2. Championing economic growth for the city, we’re determined to create a brighter future for all our citizens and at the heart of this ambition lies our Finance team. Join us and you won’t just improve life for 1.1 million people, you’ll help Birmingham become one of the world’s most successful, sustainable cities.

Our vision is for Finance to be a best-in-class function that’s agile, innovative and proactive, as well as diverse and inclusive. This is an incredibly exciting time for us; the opportunities for you to contribute and influence, to make bold and significant changes, are endless. As we change finance services to give customers more control and add value through data analytics and insight, you’ll be at the forefront of achievement and progress.

Our Treasury function manages a gross debt portfolio of £3.8bn (£3.3bn long-term and £500m short-term). It aims to be bold and innovative while following – and shaping – Treasury best practice guidance. This is an exciting time as we’re exploring non-traditional sources of financing such as a Private Placement of Debt. In this Business Analyst role, you’ll support the Treasury Front Office Team.

Every day, you’ll be maintaining treasury investment and borrowing transactions on the Council’s treasury management system. You’ll also co-ordinate our Treasury payments including the flow through approved levels. And then there’ll be your monthly tasks: reconciling Treasury transactions, producing analytical reports, helping with treasury returns and completing journal entries. As you become proficient, you’ll have the opportunity to become more involved in the strategic and front office functions. AAT-qualified, you’ll be used to working within a professional finance team. With this background, you’ll know about management accounting, planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance management, as well as relevant legislation. Motivated, caring and passionate about what you do, you’ll provide a fantastic treasury management service and offer sound financial advice.

This is more than your next finance role. It’s a chance to create a brighter, bolder Birmingham.
