Brighter. Bolder. Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council is the largest local authority in Europe – and we’re on the cusp of something truly special. With an annual spend of over £3billion we’re gearing up for major events such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the creation of HS2. Championing economic growth for the city, we’re determined to create a brighter future for all our citizens and at the heart of this ambition lies our Finance team. Join us and you won’t just improve life for 1.1 million people, you’ll help Birmingham become one of the world’s most successful, sustainable cities.

Our vision is for Finance to be a best-in-class function that’s agile, innovative and proactive, as well as diverse and inclusive. This is an incredibly exciting time for us; the opportunities for you to contribute and influence, to make bold and significant changes, are endless. As we change finance services to give customers more control and add value through data analytics and insight, you’ll be at the forefront of achievement and progress.

Our Cashbooks team needs the support of an efficient Finance Assistant to perform at its very best. In this key role, you’ll be the hub of a small but busy team that the reconciles the Council’s bank accounts and processes transactions in the ledger. You’ll carry out a range of tasks including posting income to the ledger and bank reconciliation-related administration. Whether you’re inputting data or answering queries, you’ll be passionate, caring and motivated to provide a brilliant service.

Having worked in administration or an office environment, you’ll be used to working as part of a team. Organised and IT-literate, you have good numerical skills and a keen eye for detail. With these talents, you’ll input data accurately, prioritise your workload and work quickly to meet deadlines. With a can-do attitude and helpful approach, you’ll always be ready to learn new systems.

This is more than your next finance role. It’s a chance to create a brighter, bolder Birmingham.
