The Rent Service is part of the Digital and Customer Services Division of Birmingham City Council and has significant duties for income collection to the Housing Revenue Account. We manage the collection of £268 million housing rents and also have responsibility for the recovery of former tenancy debt and Housing Benefit Overpayments for Local Authority tenants.

Our purpose is to maximise the collection of rent by providing our tenants with advice and assistance in order to prevent rent debt. We aim to promote self-sufficiency and identify vulnerable tenants at an early stage. We promote and maintain a strong payment culture and maximise income through receipt of relevant welfare benefits.

Birmingham City Council Rent Service has a number of permanent opportunities. The positions are Income Services Officer working 36.5 hours per week.

You will be based within the Birmingham City Council Rent Service located at Woodcock Street

Your tasks will include:

  • Managing tenant’s accounts in accordance with escalation process advising and signposting as required.
  • Monitoring tenant’s accounts for payments, adherence to payment arrangements.
  • Taking payments from tenants via the payment system as required in line with all required precautions and GDPR regulations.
  • Reacting to customer enquires across all service channels (telephone, letter and online)

Successful candidates may have extensive knowledge of welfare benefits to include Universal Credit, will have extensive knowledge of Housing Legislation in the context of income recovery and will have experience of dealing with internal and external customers.

Ideally, you will have experience of dealing with internal and external customers, will be able to demonstrate the ability to work well as part of a team and be able to organise work and set priorities.
