Description of Post

To work under the instruction/guidance of a Senior Lunchtime Supervisor. Hours are fixed within the period 12.00 – 1.30pm, plus half an hour per week as directed. Liaison with staff in school also forms an essential element to the role of Lunchtime Supervisor.

In addition to those professional responsibilities which are common to all support staff in the school, the postholder’s key accountability will be for the care and welfare of children during the lunch hour period. Links to The Every Child Matters Agenda are also important:

Duties and responsibilities

• Safe supervision of pupils during lunch period.

• Supervise washing of hands prior to eating / entering Dining Hall

• Control of dinner queue

• Supervise pupils eating meals

• Ensuring crockery, cutlery, trays, leftovers are returned by pupils to disposal and collection points

• Offering play activities in the playground and inside if wet

• Dealing with accidents in the playground

• Keeping pupils out of building when they should be outside at lunchtime

• Reporting misdemeanours to a superior

Any other duties as directed by the Senior Supervisor or HeadTeacher

Experience of working with children

Experience of working with children in a school lunchtime setting

Good communication skills

Ability to meet children’s needs
