Children’s Placements Officer – Ref: CH22620
£23,308 - £27,468 per annum
Location: Agile Working: including working from home and designated Children’s Services Office

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person wanting to make a difference children’s lives.  Our Children’s Placements Team has a vacancy for a Children’s Placements Officer to join our committed Children’s Placements Team.  The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Placements Team; responding to referrals from social workers to search for placements of looked after children in foster care, residential homes or supported accommodation.  This crucial role involves making the most effective use of internal resources and contracted services in meeting the residential or fostering placement needs of children and young people. We are looking for someone with a proven ability to work on their own initiative; who has excellent communication skills to work as part of a small but effective team and who can liaise with a range of professionals including social workers and fostering and residential providers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying placements using the placements portal which is shared across the West Midlands local authorities.  The role involves working closely with providers, social work, education and health colleagues and requires the ability to work in a changing and demanding environment.   You will need to be familiar with how contracts and framework arrangements work and be able to formalise placements once made.   You will also have a role to play in collecting and maintaining information about where children and young people are placed and monitoring these services.

Walsall Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Completion of a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check is a requirement of this post.  This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.
