Transport Planners

Senior Transport Planner: Engineering Level 3 (£32,234 - £34,728)

About us

We are looking to appoint a Senior Transport Planner to join our successful and innovative team. There you will play a key role in shaping the future development of Warwickshire’s transport infrastructure which is vital to supporting sustainable economic growth and prosperity. This role offers an excellent opportunity to start or progress your career in transport planning.

The Highways and Transport Group identifies, develops and delivers transport schemes to meet the objectives of the County Council’s Local Transport Plan and the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s Strategic Economic Plan. The County Council has an enviable record of securing funding and delivering major transport improvements across all modes of travel. In recent years the Group has led the delivery of a number of new rail stations as well as major new or improved road and cycle infrastructure. There is much more to come over the next few years, with the Group focused on delivering an ambitious pipeline of schemes.

About the role

The successful applicant can expect a varied and challenging workload that is commensurate with the job grade. This will include taking ownership of the development and implementation of transport policies and strategies such as area based transport strategies and working on the Council’s response to emerging themes such as Electric Vehicles, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and Very Light Rail. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to project manage individual transport schemes from their inception through to delivery. One of the posts will include a focus on sustainable transport including contributing to the development and delivery of a new Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan and developing and leading initiatives that encourage modal shift to active or sustainable forms of transport, while the other role will have a broader remit across the full range of transport interventions.

Key skills and experience required

To be successful in the role you will need to be motivated, creative, organised and willing to take responsibility for the success of your activities. You will need good analytical skills in order to develop detailed understanding of transport problems and to identify, explore and develop solutions. As you will be working with and alongside a wide range of internal and external colleagues, partners and clients, you will need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and be used to providing technical information to varied audiences.

You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent). Previous experience in transport planning or related activity is desirable, but not essential as on-the-job training will be given.

These posts are advertised on a full-time basis, but applications from candidates seeking flexible or part-time working arrangements will be considered.
