32.5 hours per week – 12 months Fixed Term

Scale 2 £9.62 - £9.81 per hour or Scale 3 £10.01 - £10.21 per hour

Haughton School is a Primary Special School which caters for children with moderate learning difficulties and complex needs. We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join us from November 2020 (or sooner if available).
You will be expected to work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom.
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and highly motivated Specialist Teaching & Learning Assistant to support access to learning for children with MLD and complex needs. This vacancy is initially linked to an Early Years/Key Stage 1 class; however, you may be expected to work with other groups of children, dependent on the future needs of the school.
To be considered for this post you must hold an NVQ Level 2 qualification and have experience in working with children. The profile of our children would require the successful candidate to have a high level of patience and a good understanding to their specific needs. You must be an individual who has the skills and passion to make a positive impact on our children. You must also possess the commitment, enthusiasm, and energy to inspire them every day. You must show your ability to communicate clearly and interact well with children and teachers alike in a culture built on the values of mutual trust and respect.
It would be advantageous if candidates could demonstrate the following: -
- Experience of supporting children with speech, language and communication needs including autism
- Experience of working with children with cognition and learning needs thereby able to collaborate with teachers to differentiate / scaffold learning tasks and activities for children working significantly below age related expectations
- An understanding of children’s sensory differences
- Experience of helping children to understand and regulate their emotional responses and develop a greater sense of self-awareness, independence, and resilience
The post will be offered subject to the satisfactory return of two references and a Disclosure & Barring Service Records (previously known as CRB) check.
