About the Role

Staffordshire County Council is a statutory Waste Disposal Authority in a two-tier local authority structure.  We provide disposal for approximately half a million tonnes of waste per year including kerbside residual and material collected through our Household Waste Recycling Network.  We are seeking two experienced and passionate waste management professionals, to join Staffordshire County Council’s Sustainability and Waste Management Team.

Each of the roles will be responsible for a primary contract, either Energy Recovery Facilities or Household Waste Recycling Centres, along with a number of smaller contracts.  The primary aim of the Waste Contract Officer role is to monitor multiple complex waste treatment and disposal contracts which the County has commissioned, ensuring the required services are delivered to a high standard, and the contract’s performance monitored with best value for money achieved within designated budgets.

To achieve this the post holder will assess and interpret data and reports provided by contractors, Waste Collection Authorities (WCA) and partner organisations; conduct site audits as applicable; and deliver service improvements, presenting any issues to the Waste Contracts Manager, with possible solutions.

The successful applicant will also act as a primary point of contact for relevant WCA and Partner Authorities for day-to-day operational issues. They will assist in the procurement of replacement contracts for services and works as required.

Whilst the core function of the role is to maintain the operational service delivery reporting to the Waste Contracts Manager, you will also support the Head of Sustainability and Waste Management.

This Authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
