Pastoral Coach

Main purpose of the post

  • Provide a coherent and integrated pastoral support structure, which meets the needs of individual learners.
  • To work with the Assistant Principal to provide support for all learners to ensure they are making progress, despite their circumstances and additional needs.
  • To co-ordinate all pastoral support to ensure that the guidance for all learners is best practice and in line with current legislation.
  • To liaise with all staff, parents/carers and external agencies linked to each young person to improve the progress/outcomes in a timely way.
  • Act as an outstanding role model for learners to reinforce appropriate employability, communication, and social skills.
  • Assist and support tutors and the rest of the college to meet the vision, values and quality improvement plans adopted by the Assistant Principal and Trustees.

Responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Be responsible for promoting the welfare of learners.
  • To work closely with the DSL in ensuring safeguarding for all learners is at the heart of HBVC.
  • To ensure all tasks in or out of HBVC are carried out in due regard to health and safety.
  • To lead on delivering emotional and social support across the college to ensure the well-being of all our learners.
  • Support and encourage learners to make informed choices/decisions for themselves.
  • Support tutors to review and record progress against short and long-term goals.
  • Contribute to individual learning plans to identify learners’ needs.
  • Provide and share information with the leaders and tutors to enhance the quality of the learner experience and help them to reach their full potential.
  • To work closely with the Employability Team to ensure learners are supported in all aspects of their learning.
  • Take ownership of the EHCP review process, ensure that review meetings are managed effectively, confirming this information is passed to appropriate staff.
  • To work with parents/carers and external agencies, putting the learner at the centre of all planning and development.
  • To support learners in their own person-centred planning journey.
  • Develop, implement, and review care plans for learners with medical and mental health needs, ensuring the appropriate support is in place.
  • Oversee all aspects of behaviours support, including implementing behaviour policies and procedures, undertaking behaviour meetings, developing positive behaviour support plans and risk assessments and resourcing for behaviour strategies.
  • To promote good attendance levels and provide intervention where non-attendance becomes a concern.
  • Ensuring Prevent and British values workshops are delivered as part of the study programme.
  • Encourage a total communication approach and overcome communication barriers using augmentative and alternative communication.
  • Ensuring equality, inclusion and diversity is promoted in line with HBVC’s values and awareness days/events are celebrated throughout college.
  • Responsible for promoting the learner voice platform in college and the wider community.
  • Supporting learners to play an active part within their community to access skills competitions and social action opportunities.
  • Support with aspects of remote learning to extend the colleges offer.
  • Support with travel training arrangement and referrals, where required.

Personal Responsibilities

  • To undertake appropriate professional development including adhering to the principle of performance management.
  • Working hours to be 36.5 a week
  • To attend team meetings and training sessions/days.
  • To undertake the variety of tasks that may spontaneously arise whilst responding to individual needs of our learners.
  • Any other duties as appropriate within the role to ensure the smooth running of HBVC.
