Job Details

The Role:

  • Provide a coherent and integrated support structure, which meets the needs of individual learners and groups.
  • Support the facilitation of learning in Heart of Birmingham Vocational College (HBVC) and through external work placements, to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Act as an outstanding role model for learners to reinforce appropriate employability, communication, and social skills.
  • Support, inspire and encourage learners to be as independent as possible.
  • Assist and support tutors and the rest of the college to meet the vision, values and quality improvement plans adopted by the Principal and Trustees.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Support tutors to strengthen all aspects of vocational learning.
  • Provide support to tutors by creating resources and strategies in order to make the learner more independent.
  • Provide and implement structured learning relating to learners’ specific requirements. For example, learning activities and requirements such as time, appropriate work-related behaviours including social when dealing with co-workers and peers.
  • To complete and monitor risk assessments.
  • Prepare and produce materials to support the tutors in the delivery of an accessible curriculum.
  • Provide one-to-one and group support for learners under the direction of the tutor.
  • Lead and complete mid-term planning whilst embedding functional skills and ILP’s.
  • Support tutors to review and record progress against short and long-term targets.
  • Support and encourage effective and appropriate communication throughout the day, including breaks and lunchtimes.
  • Implementing strategies and supporting learners in self-esteem and confidence-building activities.
  • Lead on aspects of Student Voice.
  • Support and encourage learners to make informed choices/decisions for themselves.
  • Provide and share information with the curriculum manager and tutors to enhance the quality of the student’s experience and help them to reach their full potential.
  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of learners.
  • To ensure all tasks in or out of HBVC are carried out in due regard to Health and Safety.

Personal Responsibilities:

  • To undertake appropriate professional development including adhering to the principle of performance management.
  • To be accountable for your personal development file.
  • Working hours to be 36.5 a week
  • To attend team meetings and training sessions/days
  • To undertake the variety of tasks that may spontaneously arise whilst responding to individual needs of our learners
  • Any other duties as appropriate within the role in order to ensure the smooth running of Heart of Birmingham Vocational College.
