Mental Health Benefits Support Worker           

Fixed term contract until 31st March 2021 (With Potential Extension)

Grade 5 LPP15 – LPP19 / £23,541 to £27,041 per year pro-rata (37 hours)

We are seeking a Benefits Support Worker to work full-time with our Mental Health Welfare Rights Officer in the Welfare Rights Service. Whilst this is a temporary post until at least 31st March 2021, we are hopeful that the funding will be extended beyond this date. The post-holder will be expected to deliver high quality benefits information and advice to health and social care professionals in mental health and directly to benefit claimants in this area where appropriate in order to assist in establishing their benefit rights.

The post-holder will:

  • Support the Mental Health Welfare Rights Officer in delivering a Welfare Rights Service to people affected by mental ill-health and their carers living in Wolverhampton.


  • Enhance the Mental Health work within hospitals and contribute to the financial inclusion of high-volume service users at the hospitals (New Cross and Penn).


  • Be responsible for the efficient case recording and administrative functions relating to the provision of the Mental Health Welfare Rights Service and the collation of statistical information pertinent to the Service.

You must be committed to the rights of claimants and to helping Health and Social Care meet its responsibility to those in need of its services. You must have recent experience of high-quality advice in Social Security law and practice, and experience of the benefits claiming process. You must have excellent communication and negotiation skills. You must have the ability to design and produce effective information for both claimants, carers and professionals.
