What is the job role?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Senior Commissioning Officer to join the Children’s Strategic Commissioning Team to take overall responsibility for the quality assurance of placements, review and commission SEND residential and day educational independent specialist placements and commission of a range of other services for looked after children.

The role involves working in partnership with stakeholders to develop, commission and implement a variety of outcome-based services for looked after children which are high quality, meet identified needs and deliver value for money. You will manage a team of contract officers and develop and implement robust quality assurance processes across all commissioned placements to ensure services deliver the best outcomes for children and young people. You will also lead on the delivery of a range of other commissioning projects and have specific responsibility for commissioning SEND residential and day educational independent specialist placements.

We are a small team of commissioners and contract officers responsible for commissioning provision for looked after children including residential, fostering and supported accommodation placements and additional support services including advocacy and return home interviews. The services we commission play a vital role in improving the lives of children in care and the work is rewarding and challenging.

You will be joining Coventry City Council at an exciting time and working within Children’s Services, which is part of the People Directorate.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
 

Who are we looking for?

You will need to be a motivated and experienced commissioner with significant experience of leading and managing a range of complex commissioning processes and working in a fast-paced and challenging environment. With strong communication and organisational skills, you will have a commitment to improving the quality of provision and outcomes for children and young people and be experienced at leading, managing and supervising staff.
