Location: Highways & Transport Control Centre, Worcester
Situated in the south-west Midlands, Worcestershire is a place of rolling hills and beautiful countryside with a range of towns with both industrial and rural heritage, and at its heart the mediaeval city of Worcester with its iconic cathedral and riverside setting. Yet this stunning place is only an hour by train from the bustle of England’s second city and all of the attractions of Birmingham.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Highways & Transport team within Worcestershire. We are looking to appoint a Liaison Engineer who will act as an ambassador for Worcestershire County Council and who will be the primary contact for all Local Member enquiries. Working closely with Members, they will be the ‘go to’ officer for all matters in their Divisions, offering guidance and support on major projects and operational issues. They will ensure that all communications are timely, appropriate and fit for purpose, whilst always adopting a politically neutral stance.
The new postholder will ensure that Worcestershire County Council's priorities and aspirations are managed appropriately in accordance with policies and procedures. A key element of the role is responsibility for safeguarding the political and public reputation of the County Council.
The post is very varied and diverse, offering new challenges every day in a dynamic operational environment and you will be required to travel throughout the County.
Applicants should have a good knowledge of Highways legislation, practices and procedures including national developments affecting the Local Government agenda and be proficient in managing the expectations of key stakeholders. Good communication is essential, together with the ability to lead and motivate others.
