Who we need

Working in a fast-paced project-based environment, you can easily translate large volumes of complex information, from multiple sources, into customer friendly language and engage key stakeholders, residents and businesses affected by the project.

You will be required to build relationships and work collaboratively with communication teams across the West Midlands, be approachable, have excellent written, verbal and communication skills, and have the ability to influence in person.

We need you to manage and coordinate relationships with a range of partners and stakeholders during high pressure situations, so a calm head and ability to work effectively under pressure is essential.

You must be dynamic and a confident communicator with experience in managing communication and engagement campaigns, writing copy for various channels and be able to engage communities via traditional and digital media.

Using your knowledge and background as an engagement professional, you can easily identify opportunities to promote the project in local communities and manage expectations and relationships in detail.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.

Who we are

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) plans, develops and manages an integrated transport system for the West Midlands that is reliable, affordable and accessible for all. It is the transport arm of the West Midlands Combined Authority

A standard setter in the industry, our achievements are regularly recognised nationally, most importantly as the winner of ‘City Region Authority of the Year’ in 2016, 2017 and 2019 at the National Transport Awards.

Whether it’s developing and delivering new infrastructure, collaborating on future mobility projects, operating the West Midlands Metro or helping customers to keep moving, we need creative and innovative talent to join our already excellent team and help us make a real difference to residents, businesses and visitors travelling in and around the West Midlands.

About West Midlands Rail Executive

Rail matters in the West Midlands. It's vital that we have rail services across our region that are fit for the future and able to support our ambitious plans for growth and economic prosperity; helping commuters get to work, businesses and communities to connect with each other and welcoming visitors to the heart of the country.

In the past we haven't had the influence we needed to make the right local decisions about local rail services. That's changed now, with overall responsibility for the regional rail network moving from Whitehall to the West Midlands. Today West Midlands Rail Executive is providing the leadership and drive to shape better rail services for the future by working with government, train operators, rail regulators and other partners to deliver the improvements that West Midlanders want and need.

We don't operate the trains, but we work closely with the organisations providing train services to support their plans for making services better - and we hold them to account when things go wrong. We're made up of local authorities from across the region, which means that local councillors sit on our board and can make sure the views and issues raised by the local people they represent can steer our plans. Our work is championed by the Mayor of the West Midlands who is committed to delivering a new, golden era for our local trains.

This is a remote working opportunity until a date is agreed for the WMCA workforce to return to our usual place of work at 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham.

Our priority is to keep all our employees safe and well during this time. We will be working remotely for the foreseeable future, and we are doing everything we can to ensure all our employees can enjoy a comfortable remote working space.
