This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy Highways Maintenance Team, we are currently looking for two Senior Maintenance Technicians to work in our Local Works Team in the design and delivery of planned highway maintenance schemes across Worcestershire up to the value of circa £150k.

In this role, you'll be required to:
•Design planned maintenance schemes with Works Orders and target prices, considering technical standards and legislation and ensuring that payments are made as appropriate.
•Oversee the work of contractors, checking materials and standards and ensuring only allowable costs are paid.
•Make site assessments and decisions in emergency or ad hoc situations related to safety and traffic flow, and prepare works instructions.
•Carry out complex investigations into defective roads and drainage systems, including signage requirements, place orders and monitor installations.
•Investigate complaints from members of the public and the emergency services regarding complex highway issues.
•Carry out road inspections to record and report findings as appropriate and organise and deliver subsequent maintenance works.
•Provide technical information for investigations into Third Party insurance claims against the Authority.
•Monitor scheme expenditure or minor programmes to ensure allocated budget targets are achieved

Working in a varied and fast paced environment, you will use your existing knowledge and experience to support service delivery in a range of interesting and challenging highways maintenance and improvement schemes and will be based either at our Lydiate Ash depot near Bromsgrove or our Newland depot in Malvern.

We're looking for a bright and enthusiastic person to join our team that is motivated, good at problem solving, has excellent planning and organisational skills with a Level 5 qualification in Civil Engineering or similar with the following skills and experience:
•Specialist knowledge and experience of highway maintenance materials, techniques and standards including legislation and practice with experience of compiling, designing and delivering highways maintenance schemes.
•Experience of effective partnership working with good communication skills and tactful yet firm, persuasive, negotiating and influencing skills.
•Experience in resolving complex highway matters with the ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative to resolve highway site issues, as well as working in a team.
•The ability to prioritise within a major highway scheme or a minor programme of works with experience of monitoring and processing expenditure of an allocated budget.
•Ability to undertake site surveys, sometimes in difficult weather and on difficult terrain.
•Ability to understand and interpret technical reports and information and use these to create designed schemes for maintaining the Highways network, with the ability to draft technical reports for approval and sign-off.
•Good computer literacy including ability to use standard packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

You'll also need to have a valid driving licence (need to drive high visibility County vehicles on high speed roads) with the willingness to travel extensively within the County and to work occasionally outside 'normal office' hours.
