As a Highway Authority, Worcestershire County Council (WCC) has responsibility for co-ordinating all works on the highway network of Worcestershire. All works promoters are required to apply for a permit from the highway authority and WCC issues these through the joint permit scheme West and Shires Permit scheme (WaSP). This process is aimed at assessing the impact on any works to minimise disruption to traffic networks, any foreseeable inconvenience which could be caused to street/road users together with communicating with any other adjoining authority who may be affected, emergency services, police and organisations catering for disabled groups.
The overall purpose of the job is to assist in the implementation of the Worcestershire Permit Scheme in accordance with the national conditions for Permit Schemes, Codes of Practice of the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991 and the statutory network management duty requirements of the Traffic Management Act (TMA) 2004 all with minimum disruption to highway users. The Successful applicants will undertake upfront site visits to discuss major utility works and traffic management required to undertake these works , site visits during the works to ensure site compliance with all relevant primary legislation and codes of practice and visits to immediate/Emergency works that effect the strategic road network. They will also work closely providing technical assistance and administrative support to the Network Management Team for the effective, efficient and reduction in disruption of the Highway Network.
