Inspiring Social Work Excellence in Worcestershire

Do you want to make a real, positive difference to the children and young people of Worcestershire?

If yes, we want to hear from you.

Children's Social Worker – Homeless Intervention Team

Welcome to Worcestershire Children’s First!

My name is Tina Russell and I am the Director for Children's Social Care and Safeguarding Services. I'm supported by my Assistant Directors; Maria White, Emma Brittain and Adam Johnston and we are looking to recruit dedicated and creative social workers to fill our remaining Social Worker positions.

If you are a passionate and innovative social worker looking to make a difference, develop your career and improve the lives of children and young people, then Worcestershire Children Services should be your next destination!

The Homeless Intervention Team is a dedicated team working with 16 and 17 year old young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless within the next 56 days. The team comprises of 2 Social Workers and 2 Specialist family Support Workers. The focus of the work is to support the young people to remain at or return home to live with their families where it is safe for them to do so. Where young people are unable to remain living at home we explore with them and their families their accommodation options and undertake assessments to identify areas where they may require support to develop their independent living skills to ensure a positive move on into appropriate accommodation. Many of the young people we work with have experiences trauma in their childhood and have additional vulnerabilities and are often hard to reach young people. The team support young people through assessment, as Children in Need and also in some case as Looked After Children.

If you are someone who:

  • Shares our passion for working with 16 and 17 year old young people and their families and has a determination to achieve positive outcomes for them
  • Is tenacious, persistent, resilient and excellent at developing positive relationships with young people, their families and partner agencies.
  • Has an understanding of the issues young people have who are faced with homelessness.
  • Understands the legislation relating to homeless young people.

Then the Homeless Intervention Team may well be for you!

The Service

We have been working hard on our service improvement plan and we are pleased to have achieved a “Requires Improvement to be Good” gradings across the service in July 19 with Ofsted reporting,

Senior managers have taken the essential steps to meet the goals of their social care improvement plan. Combined with the restructure of services, they have ensured that changes to core practice are embedded, and that invested resources focus on delivering better outcomes for children.”

Staff are positive about changes that have been implemented, including that a strengths-based model of social work intervention is in place and embedded.”

Senior leaders are ambitious and the trajectory for further improvement is established”

It’s a great time to join our service and help us make a lasting difference to the lives of children and young people we work with.

Our offer to you:

Salary up to £41,728 + £3,000 welcome payment and retention payment*

*Salary includes market forces payment and annual retention payment.  Welcome and annual retention payments, and relocation package are subject to eligibility criteria.

Relocation package worth up to £10,000 (subject to eligibility criteria)
