Children’s Services is a service area within Coventry City Council that supports children and families across the city.

The vision and commitment of Children’s Services ensures that a high quality and child centred service is provided, ensuring the right help at the right time and engaging with partners.

Children’s Services is committed to outcome-driven and impactful interventions and measures success by the outcome for children and families.

The service reflects and responds to the changing needs of Coventry and its population and understands the need for a reflective and flexible service with a strong Early Help offer to provide early and targeted intervention so that families can access the support they need from a variety of partners and agencies.

A successful recruitment and retention strategy has resulted in a committed and stable workforce who are dedicated to delivering excellent services to children and young people in Coventry.

It is a great time to join our diverse workforce within Children’s Services, with great opportunities to develop your learning, ongoing training to improve practice, a clear way to progress through our progression pathway, and an engaging team that recognises success and values staff.

What is the job role?

Are you committed to improving services and outcomes for children in care?

Do you have excellent project management skills and the ability to build successful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders?

Can you ensure that the services we have in place for children are high quality, meet need and are value for money?

Coventry City Council is seeking a commissioner to work in the Children’s Commissioning Team. The role involves working in partnership with stakeholders to develop, commission and implement a variety of outcome-based services for looked after children. You will take lead responsibility for the commissioning of allocated projects which may include provision such as fostering, residential and supported accommodation and additional support services such as children and families therapeutic support.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual with experience of working within a health or social care environment with either children and young people or other vulnerable people in an operational, commissioning or contract management role.

You will need to be able to analyse need, develop a range of commissioning options, write complex reports and use all elements of the commissioning cycle to ensure we have the right services in place for our children.

You will be experienced at partnership working, managing projects to deliver the desired outcomes, working in a fast paced environment and effectively prioritising and managing your own workload.

You must have safeguarding and quality at the heart of all you do and be committed to ensuring that children and young people are involved in the development and review of services.

We are a small team of commissioners and contract officers responsible for commissioning provision for looked after children including residential, fostering and supported accommodation placements and additional support services such as supervised contact and advocacy. The services we commission play a vital role in improving the lives of children in care and the work is rewarding and challenging.

You will be joining Coventry City Council at an exciting time and working within Children’s Services, which is part of the People Directorate.
