You will be one of two Chief Accountants working closely together to lead the provision of accountancy services for both Cannock Chase and Stafford Borough Council’s General Fund and HRA Services (including revenue and capital), preparing associated reports to the Leadership Team and Members, preparing the statutory accounts and liaising with the external audit team.

A knowledge and understanding of Local Authority accounting is therefore essential, along with being able to demonstrate a wide knowledge of various financial systems (the Finance team is currently implementing a new financial management system).

CCAB qualified with membership of a relevant professional body; you will have previous experience of budget setting, budget monitoring, closure of accounts and Capital accounts along with the ability to provide professionally sound financial information both verbally and in writing to Officers and Members of the Council. You must have experience of managing and supervising a team and have IT skills sufficient to create and amend documents using Microsoft Office packages such as Word and Excel.

Previous experience of operating in a lead role in budget setting and closure of accounts along with a CIPFA qualification would also be advantageous.
