Full Time Leadership with teaching cover, the Board is open to a job-share appointment.

Merit is a Medical Pupil Referral Unit within the City of Stoke-on-Trent which currently provides full time educational provision for 38 children with plans to grow to 72 children with a broad range of complex medical and mental health needs.

The role will be responsible for the day to day management and organisation of the MERIT Pupil Referral Unit and the Hospital Classroom (Royal Stoke University Hospital) for pupils with Medical Needs.

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate:

  • A clear understanding of the importance of the role of Merit Service in contributing in the pupils' spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development and safeguarding.
  • How to prepare pupils for the opportunities and responsibilities of returning to mainstream education and enable pupils to have the best possible chance to prepare for opportunities and experience of adult life.
  • Experience of managing the needs of children with complex medical needs including clinical mental ill health.
  • Experience of working in a specialised setting.


    The Management Board is seeking to appoint either an experienced individual with a proven record of dynamic leadership or an individual with the necessary attributes to develop into a dynamic leader.
