Who we need

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is looking for their next challenge, but also the rewards of working in a high-performing market research team. This role will be the main point of contact for online community members.  The post will assist the Human Intelligence Team in the management of market research surveys, including questionnaire/topic design, data coding, data entry and preliminary analysis.

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) plans, develops and manages an integrated transport system for the West Midlands that is reliable, affordable and accessible for all. It is the transport arm of the West Midlands Combined Authority.

About the team

The Human Intelligence Team is a small, productive group of market research experts, accountable for designing, analysing and reporting market research activities.

Work closely with Mustard Research and colleagues across the business, TfWM has established an online market research community in November 2020.  By consulting members of the community we can gain valuable customer insight to make sure that changes made to the transport network in our region are tried and tested with our residents.  The project is funded as part of the Future Transport Zone Fund

The team is also central to the downstream monitoring and evaluation of the impacts of transport and future mobility projects,  and is responsible for adding results to the evidence base for new project development.

About the Future Transport Zone

The West Midlands will be the UK’s first FTZ, leading the way for all major urban centres in the UK. Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) will work with companies to trial and demonstrate new modes of transport, services and technologies, like mobility as a service, car sharing, electric bikes and using data to improve congestion on our roads.

The FTZ programme will see work to improve our understanding of travel behaviour using innovative market segmentation and a new online research community.  This platform will be used to gaining consumer insight into the interaction between transport and lifestyle.  Better understand of consumer behavior can in turn be used to improve the transport offer, both product and marketing/ communication of that offer e.g. information on online purchase decision making, uptake of new technology and use of social media.

Launched on 16 November, TfWM's online community is a forum where members of the West Midlands public are invited to share their views on different topics.  We want to use this community to make sure that changes made to the transport network in our region are tried and tested with our residents. 

 

Essential Attributes

The following skills and attributes are essential to a successful application:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with different audiences with the confidence to deal with a wide range of people.
  • Good PC-based software. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, presentation software such as PowerPoint and Internet browsers.
  • Experience of handling personal data and compliance with data protection legislation and internal procedures in relation to the management of personal information.
  • Ability to deliver to fixed timescales, respond well to urgent issues.

This is a remote working opportunity until a date is agreed for the WMCA workforce to return to our usual place of work at 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham.
