Hagley Catholic High School is part of St Nicholas Owen Catholic Multi Academy Company with five of our Catholic feeder schools. St Nicholas Owen Catholic Multi Academy Company was established in October 2014, as part of the Diocesan Academy Strategy across the Archdiocese of Birmingham, and brought together six schools, which all have a strong tradition of excellence in Catholic education. The Multi Academy Company was formed on the basis of effective working relationships, with the aim of strengthening and further improving the life chances of all the young people within our strong Catholic partnership. The Directors of the Multi Academy Company and all involved in our schools, are deeply committed to providing outstanding education firmly rooted in gospel values – our motto is “In Jesus we live, learn and serve”.

Hagley Catholic High School is a highly successful, Catholic high school with a current population of 1136 students aged 11 – 18 including a Sixth Form of 200.  The school is dedicated to developing a Catholic community in which all students work towards fulfilling their potential in a safe and supportive environment.

The school has a Pupil Admission Number of 190 with six forms of entry. The school enjoys an excellent reputation and commands a high degree of parental and parish support.  Students come to Hagley mainly from Kidderminster, Stourbridge, Halesowen, Stourport-on-Severn, Bewdley and South West Birmingham.

Hagley Catholic High School is looking to recruit an ambitious and enthusiastic teacher of Physical Education and Head of Year.

This post is suitable for a more experienced teacher who is passionate about delivering the highest quality of Physical Education (PE). We are seeking to appoint a teacher who will support the ethos of the department and the wider school community. The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to the teaching and development of PE across the whole age and ability range, including examination groups at Key Stage 4 and/or 5. A commitment to support the extracurricular sport programme is also integral to the role.

The Physical Education department at the school is highly regarded and secures excellent progress and outcomes for students. There are currently 145 students studying GCSE PE at Key Stage 4, which is not surprising having achieved a FFT value added score of +0.78 in the last examined series (2019). Achievement in A-Level PE is also impressive. In 2019, 89% of students secured grades A*- C, with 22% achieving A*- A and a 100% pass rate. The Level 3 value added score for this A-Level PE cohort was +0.51.

The PE department has six specialist teachers, all of whom are required to teach a range of curriculum sports within the Games programme at Key Stages 3 and 4, and enrichment at Key Stage 5. GCSE and A-Level PE are delivered based upon subject specialisms. The staff within the department promote and deliver a high level of extracurricular provision. Students at the school compete at District, Regional and National levels of competition in a range of sporting activities.

This post also includes the opportunity to take on the position of Head of Year. Hagley has an excellent pastoral care programme and a wonderful Pastoral Leadership Team working towards the personal development of all Hagley students. Personal Development and Behaviour and Attitudes were noted as real strengths in out last Ofsted inspection (October 2019). Heads of Year take the lead on the personal growth of students in their year group driven by our Virtues and Values, and a firm belief that everyone of us can be better each day, and that there should be no barriers to our students being whatever they want to be.

Informal visits are not possible in the current climate. However any questions or queries can be addressed to Mr M Behan, Head of PE by email mbehan@hagleyrc.worcs.sch.uk and Mr R Miastowski, Assistant Principal, Personal Development, regarding the Head of Year role,  email rmiastowki@hagleyrc.worcs.sch.uk.
